Migrant Solitary Walks

  • Little India is a vibrant district where the local Indian community visit to shop, socialise and play. Yet, it draws migrant workers all over Singapore looking for a familiar place away from home, indelibly shaping the character and tenor of the space. Each corner harbours its own share of stories and reflections.

How much do we really know about this colourful historical precinct and its lesser known occupants? What meanings does the district hold for the migrants who live and frequent this space?

  • Walk with migrants and hear stories from the 'ground'. These places and stories of friendships, hope, struggles and grief are co-curated with migrants and introduced from their perspective.

  • Discover unique spots and spaces with social significance to migrant workers. Learn about their colloquial names and importance. Treat your taste buds to a delightful Bangladeshi meal and appreciate its eatery's humble beginnings.

  • Gain a better understanding of the challenges that migrant workers in Singapore face and consider possible solutions to create a more inclusive and fair society.

  • We organize private walks for schools, student associations and informal groups. If you have a group of 8-20 participants and would like to come on a community-led walk around the Farrer Park area, please write to Alex at alex.galvez@herewithyou.org.sg
